Julie knew what she wanted to do with her life from grammar school, her path was set and she was going to do what it took to get there. She graduated from Reavis High School in Burbank, IL and was accepted to the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She completed the EMT-basic while attending U of I and post graduation attended the South Cook County Paramedic program. Jul took a job with Superior Ambulance Service while exploring her educational options and that’s where I met her. Jul always knew she was destined for medicine and no one ever doubted she would succeed. She had been exploring medical school options and then decided to apply to PA school. She was accepted to the Cook county PA program in the summer of 2002 and graduated with honors from the program in 2004.

It didn’t take Jul long to realize that being a PA wasn’t really what she wanted and she was studying to take the MCAT exam for admission to medical school. We had been married almost ten months when she was killed. I was up waiting for her to get home. I talked to her just past midnight told her I loved her, missed her, and couldn’t wait to see her. She reciprocated and those were the last words we ever said to each other. She was killed by a drunk driver a few moments after we spoke.

About Julie...
For those of you that knew Jul longer than I, I envy you. For those that have not had the pleasure, I hope this site can do justice to her memory and inspire you the way she did for so many. I met Jul at the end of summer in 1999; we worked for the same ambulance company. I thought she was one of the most interesting and dynamic persons I had ever met. If you spent 5 minutes talking to her you were compelled to get to know her better. Julie was born August 4, 1976. She was 5lbs 14oz and was pretty much raised in a single parent home by her mother, Mary Kay. Julie’s first few years of her life were not spent like most children; she was diagnosed with a blood disorder and spent much of her infancy and early childhood in hospitals. At the age of four she visited a hematologist for a routine blood test and to the surprise of the doctors her blood tests came back negative, she was a living miracle.
